These are the chemicals that have nothing out-of-the-ordinary quality about themselves and are extremely ‘dangerous’ for both your health and beauty. PARABENS

Parabens act as a type of preservative that prevents the growth of yeast, mold or bacteria in products like shampoo, lipsticks, deodorants, scrubs, etc. Though not harmful to the hair, these chemicals get absorbed by the skin and are associated with breast cancer and breast tumors.

 

SYNTHETIC FRAGRANCE

You don’t know what all they hide in the name of that sweet smelling compound! Found in almost every beauty product, fragrance comprises of about 3000 chemicals, most of which are toxic in nature and can trigger some serious allergies, runny nose, skin irritation, migraines, and asthma symptoms in adults as well as infants.

 

LEAD

It all started with a rumor that lipsticks contain lead, which was later tested and proven. Even the major high-end brands have admitted to the fault in their products. Lead in lipstick or lip gloss can cause irritation or chap on the lips and the surrounding skin Also, being a neurotoxin, it may cause brain damage, hormonal imbalance, and infertility.

 

CARMINE

Carmine is a red-dye extract that is extracted from cochineal beetles, therefore it is not vegan. Carmine is widely used in lip color and gloss, nail polish, eyeliner, blush, eyeshadow, and face powder.

 

TRICLOSAN

Commonly found in bar soaps, body wash, gel or liquid hand wash, triclosan easily gets absorbed through the skin. A little at a time though. It still possesses a threat to health as it affects the functioning of the endocrine system and can result in eczema, asthma or allergies.

 

ISOPROPYL

Widely known as rubbing alcohol, isopropyl is an unnecessary ingredient used in astringents and antiseptics. Being volatile in nature it causes severe skin dryness and itchiness. It can also lead to several breathing problems, nausea, and dizziness.

 

DIOXANE (SODIUM LAURETH SULPHATE)

Dioxane is extremely harmful to the human body as it too does penetrate the skin. Lather- creating products such as shampoos, soaps, face washes, etc. are known to have dioxane in them. It can cause all types of cancers and even kidney failure.

 

FORMALDEHYDE

These are commonly found in all types of beauty products such as nail paint remover, lotions, bath soaps, shampoos, makeup, deodorants, etc. Extreme exposure to formaldehyde can cause asthma. Other ill-effects include difficulty in breathing, burning sensation in eyes and nose and nausea.

 

PHTHALATES

Phthalates are used to make plastics less brittle and hard to break. They are found in makeup, shampoo, nail polish and various other products. They hinder the endocrine discretion, can cause cancer and have proven side-effects on reproductive hormones of both the genders.

 

SODIUM LAURYL SULPHATE

Considered as an evil twin of dioxane, it is an inexpensive chemical that is widely used in all personal hygiene products like mouthwash, body wash, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.It may give rise to dandruff problem, canker sores, dermatitis and hormonal imbalance.
